For the first time ever, Android has surpassed the 80% mark in terms of market share, consolidating its place as the overwhelmingly dominant operating system in the world.
In Q3 of this year, 211.6 million Android devices were shipped worldwide, which accounts for 81% of the entire global market share.  In the same quarter, Apple shipped a mere 3.38 million devices, therefore giving it a 12.9% share of the overall market. This though is a decline for Apple, whose market share has declined from 14.4% compared to the same quarter in 2012.
Apple’s market share has declined but the overall number of shipments compared to Q3 in 2012 has risen by 25.6%, therefore indicating that Apple is growing however at a substantially lower rate.
Samsung, which remains by far the largest mobile device manufacturer globally, accounted for almost 40% of the total android shipments in Q3 2013, which has seen the android market grow more than 50% over the last year.
Although Android and Apple now account for 93.9% of the market, Windows have started to make some headway. Windows have managed to grow by a staggering 156% over the past year, however they 3.6% of the overall global market. Blackberry which has continued to decline now has a market share of only 1.7%, which is a massive fall of 41.5% compared with Q3 2012.
Apple launched its iPhone back in 2007; however Android, which only began four years ago in 2009, has grown more substantially which has made its dominance all the more remarkable.
The mobile market is constantly developing and has already become the fastest growing industry in history and it is showing no signs of slowing down!
