How Google Intends to Introduce Steps to Improving Apps

Google spoke in length about the many ways in which the updates they plan for Android will make it a much more user friendly operating system at their I/O Developer Conference. These include:
  • Evolving the user interface. Much of this will be based around switching between apps and using the web with more ease.
  • Advancing existing apps, for example when in an area with bad signal Google Chrome and Google Maps will still be functioning and will be giving you directions while you are offline.

The Evolving Face of Google

Android M at face value is very similar in appearance to Android Lollipop (Android Lollipop currently only saturates 12% of the market 8 months after its release) however Android M will have many new useful services such as power optimisation features. A few of the new features are:
  • Android M fingerprint support; Google is looking to make fingerprint support standardized across the whole platform. As well as allowing users to unlock their devices and making payments via the Google Play store, this technology is also open to developers.
  • Chrome in every app; on the current OS clicking a URL in an app will take you to an in app browser. This browser is usually quite slow, not very user friendly and is a simplified web browser. Having Chrome is every app will apply major medicine to this particular ailment by speeding up loading times.
  • More durable battery life; Google are introducing “Doze”. This will put the device into a sleep of sorts when the phone is inactive by monitoring activity while still allowing the device to deal with high priority messages.
  • Google photos. To upload photos on this app will be unlimited and it will have free online storage! It will delight those of whom are sick of spending extra money on their already expensive devices.
  • Perhaps one of the single most impressive features is OFFLINE MAPS. Have you had a time in life when you are in a low service area and have no idea where you are going? Offline Maps is designed to work even when there is no signal.
Finally, it seems that Android M will be a giant and low key step to user optimisation. The only thing missing is its usual sweet treat name! We expect Google to keep this under wraps until later this year when is starts rolling out the update, but we have heard on the grapevine that it’s currently going by the name Macadamia Nut Cookie.
